“We really wanted to get involved and support such a good cause,” says Beth Shephard, Welfare Officer at Portsmouth University Students Union.
“The runners looked like they enjoyed us cheering them on. Often we would get a thumbs up or a wave. It really felt like we were helping them to carry on with the race.”
The feeling was certainly shared by our runners. Clare Hicks of Southsea, Hampshire, says: “The cheering at various points was an incredible motivation! It was an overwhelming experience especially when they were shouting your name.”
Some of the students were first-timers, others seasoned volunteers, but they all shared one thing – they had a great day out supporting our runners.
“We all had so much fun,” says Beth. “I really hope we can come back next year and help out at more events with Cancer Research UK.
