Hilary Watson

Surviving breast cancer

Hilary Watson"Having been diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and having lost my sister and two closest friends to cancer, I wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK,” Hilary says.

She was inspired to start running by her son Andrew who ran the New York Marathon for Cancer Research UK.

Hilary trained to take part in the Run 10k for Cancer Research UK event in Tatton Park last September having never run before.

She then took on the challenge of running the Flora London Marathon in April and raised over £9,000 for Cancer Research UK.

On the day

"The actual day was awesome – the crowds, the spirit, family and friends, people dressing up and people egging each other on. The day was unforgettable!" Hilary says.

"The support of Cancer Research UK has been very good. The reception after the marathon and the massage was a great bonus."

Inspiring others

"It was special to run the marathon in the same event as my son, as he got me into running. My story has also touched others and made them think that they could achieve it also.

"It's good to challenge oneself out of their comfort zone. It opens up new interests along the way," she says.
