Raising money to help more people beat cancer

Jennifer TawseJennifer Tawse, from Biggar in Scotland, completed the Virgin London Marathon in April 2010 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Jennifer knows first hand the effect cancer can have on your life. In June 2008, she was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue.

She underwent innovative surgery where half of her tongue was replaced by a piece of her wrist and part of her belly was used to rebuild her wrist.

“Everyday I think about how lucky I have been to have had such innovative surgery and the work of cancer specialists and surgeons,” she says.

Jennifer was training six days a week for the marathon and it paid off on the day.

“The crowds were just fantastic, shouting and cheering all the way along. The experience was amazing but really hard. I started ok but after mile 10 I started to struggle, but I got my second wind again.

"I was really emotional thinking about why I was running towards the end and I managed to finish it," Jennifer says.

Jennifer raised a fantastic £8,500 for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work
