Neil O'Maonaigh-Lennon

Neil, a 30 year old English teacher from Harrow, has been chosen as one of three finalists for the JustGiving Endurance Fundraiser of the Year Award at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday 10 February 2011.

105 marathons to help beat cancer

Neil took on the amazing challenge of running 105 marathons in 105 days. Setting out from Brighton on 10 September 2010 he began a mammoth journey around Great Britain to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK.

This is a cause very close to Neil’s heart since he lost both his grandfathers to the disease. He was also inspired by Terry Fox, the Canadian amputee runner who at 21, despite his illness, attempted to run a “Marathon of Hope” across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

“I am sure that each of us knows of someone, who has suffered from cancer” says Neil. “What we can do is to fight it head on, doing whatever we can to raise money for research in the hope that a cure can be found.”

A record breaking achievement

Having battled with snow and rain and tackled mountains and moors, covering over 26 miles every day, Neil crossed the finish line in Brighton on Thursday 23 December 2010, cheered on by the Cancer Research UK team.

He doubled the existing Guinness World Record of 52 marathons in 52 days and has raised over £12,000 so far to help fund our groundbreaking research.
