Setting her goal
Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2009, aged 32. She then signed up for Europe’s leading 10 mile road race, believing her treatment would finish in time for her to train. “I agreed to take part last year while enjoying dinner with some friends. My real motivation was to get fit after my treatment,” says Sarah.
Inspirational determination
However, as Sarah explains, “things didn’t go to plan.” Earlier this year, doctors found the cancer had spread and she had to undergo further surgery and treatment.
Despite this Sarah refused to be defeated. Although running was no longer an option, she walked the course dressed as Robin Hood accompanied by her “merry men”, two friends sporting excellent Friar Tuck and Knight costumes.
An amazing result
Sarah’s family and partner, Tim came to support her at the event and was cheered on by the Cancer Research UK team. She raised a fantastic £1,000 to help fund our groundbreaking research.
