Running and raising awareness to help beat cancer

Stephen AukerStephen has taken part in over 50 events in the past three years and run 4,000 miles for charity.

He chose to support Cancer Research UK after losing his parents-in-law to cancer and after his wife had cancer.

“The support I’ve received from the charity has been brilliant, from supplying T-shirts to cheering me on just when I really need it on a long race,” he says.

Updates on Twitter and Twitter Twibutes

Stephen uses Twitter (@nimblerunner) to update people about his running, raise awareness of Cancer Research UK and to meet other runners.

He has also set up Twitter Twibutes, a memorial website where supporters post names of loved ones lost to cancer and Stephen then puts the names on his Cancer Research UK running T-shirt.

Due to Stephen’s inspired use of Twitter and the internet, he has also attracted corporate support for his running. By putting names of the companies on his T-shirt, he has raised over £25,000 to support our life-saving work.

Stephen also mentors new runners and has organised several charity fun runs himself in West Yorkshire.
